Card Changes and Rewards Update – 03/05/19

We understand that over the last couple of months new ways to play have been added to Age of Sigmar: Champions, with the Arena of Echoes and the Realm Trials, both of which have their own reward structures. In light of that, we are adjusting the rewards for Ranked Play to better bring it in line with our other reward systems.

In addition to the changes to the number of booster prizes, we have also doubled the number of Souls that are rewarded for all Ranked Play levels. These changes will go into effect as part of the current Ranked Play Season 6.

Card Changes

We have been closely monitoring the decks that are being played in Ranked Play (and other modes), and listening to feedback offered by players. Based upon this data, we are adjusting the following cards:

Chaos Champion: Skarbrand

Chaos Champion: Horticulous Slimux

Order Champion: Drycha Hamadreth

The changes and the explanations behind them are explained below; as always we will continue to monitor the effect these changes have on the game and continue to iterate and refine as necessary. These changes will take effect both in the digital game and in physical events from Tuesday, 7th of May.

Skarbrand

Points Change
Old Cost: 9

New Cost: 11

The Chaos Champion from the Onslaught expansion continues to show a level of play above what we would like to see for diversity, edging out other Champions due to the cheapness of his cost in comparison to the speed of his quest. Moving forward at 11 points opens the door for other Chaos Champions to have a chance for consideration in the line up, without removing Skarbrand’s viability altogether.

Horticulous Slimux

Effect Change

Old Effect: At the start of your first turn, you may Deploy a Daemon Unit from your hand or deck onto this Champion. If your deck was searched, shuffle it afterwards.

New Effect: At the end of your first turn, you may Deploy a Daemon Unit from your hand or deck onto this Champion. If your deck was searched, shuffle it afterwards.

The new Chaos Champion from the Savagery expansion quickly made his spot at the top of the pile, with his ability to start with any Daemon Unit from your deck in play, and lending it a free rotation due to the timing when his ability triggers. This has proven especially effective in conjunction with the card Tzaangor Skyfires, as it minimises the window in which the opponent has a chance to interact with the card and trigger its downside.

By moving forward with Slimux’s effect triggering at the end of the turn, instead of before the Battlefield Phase, the ‘free’ rotation is removed and the opponent has more time to interact with the Daemon brought out.

Game Rule Clarification: The effect triggering at the end of the turn means that it happens during the End of Turn phase (after cards are drawn for the turn in the Draw Phase).

Drycha Hamadreth

Effect Change

Old Effect: Whenever you Discard 1 or more cards from another effect you control, you may Discard an additional card to deal 3 damage to your Opponent.

New Effect: Whenever you Discard 1 or more cards from another effect controlled by this Champion, you may Discard an additional card to deal 3 damage to your Opponent.

The Sylvaneth faction, introduced to the Order Alliance, utilises discarding cards to power their effects. Drycha, utilises other discard effects being used to turn excess cards in-hand into additional damage, given the ease at which cards can be discarded, her effect has now been narrowed to only care about cards discarded from effects she controls. It is hoped that this change will both slow down the large damage turns of Sylvaneth, and promote different Champion line-ups within the faction.

Future Updates & Feedback:

We monitor all the feedback that we get through our Discord, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Email channels. After using these platforms for a while now for these methods; Discord always results in the best dialogue and most informative feedback for balance issues, in-game economy issues and bugs.

We keep you as updated as we can do with upcoming changes – nobody wants these changes to come suddenly! So please keep feeding information back to us; we are listening and we are working to make Warhammer Champions the best experience it can be!
